FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
The Sable Sovereign Institute was created to ensure that leaders receive the grounding and preparation their responsibility demands. Throughout my career, I have watched extraordinary women—particularly Black women—shape institutions with composure, discipline, and resolve, often while building legacies not their own and without the structured support or leadership development that sustains intergenerational impact.
The Institute exists to close that gap. We equip leaders to carry their work with clarity and confidence, and to shape the environment for those who will follow. Leadership becomes enduring when it is practiced with intention and passed forward with care and awareness—ensuring that strength, access, and knowledge move from generation to generation.
My hope is that Sable Sovereign provides the space, structure, and perspective leaders need to influence systems with integrity—and to leave behind a foundation strong enough for the next generation to advance even further.

The Sable Sovereign Institute develops leaders who move with clarity, steadiness, and institutional fluency. Our work centers the experiences of Black women while welcoming all who seek the grounding and preparation required to lead across civic, corporate, public, and global systems.
We cultivate leaders who understand that influence must be carried with strength, grace, and a sense of responsibility—leaders who recognize the importance of preparing those who will rise behind them and shaping intergenerational pathways of leadership. The Institute strengthens identity, sharpens judgment, and deepens the capacity to lead with purpose in demanding environments, while contributing to a future that extends beyond one’s own tenure.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Founder, The Sable Sovereign Institute
Vanessa Griddine-Jones is a national leadership practitioner, policy strategist, and governance advisor with more than twenty years of experience across public service, international diplomacy, institutional governance, and civic impact. She is the Founder and CEO of Evolved Agenda Consulting, a boutique consulting firm specializing in high-level relationship building for strategic partnerships and impactful advocacy.
For nearly a decade, Vanessa served as Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus Institute (CBCI), leading national efforts in civic engagement, governance training, and leadership development.
Her public service includes senior roles in federal and state legislative environments, where she developed deep expertise in policy strategy, governance, systems navigation, and coalition building.
Her international portfolio includes historic service as the first African American woman to serve as Senior Advisor and Speechwriter to the President of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCEPA), participating in election observation missions across developing democracies in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
Vanessa is a mentor, speaker, and contributing author to Lessons from Successful African American Lawyers, and she serves on the boards of the League of Minority Voters and Woman Warrior. She holds memberships in the National Bar Association, the National Council of Negro Women, and Higher Heights.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs; a Juris Doctor; a Public Law Certificate; an LL.M. in International Law; and executive training from Harvard Kennedy School and Fordham University School of Law.
Through Sable Sovereign, Vanessa brings forward a leadership philosophy rooted in grounding, clarity, and sovereign purpose—preparing leaders to shape systems with discipline, depth, and lasting influence.
